Cookie Policy
Every cookie and browser store the site and app use, why, and how to change your mind.
Last updated · Version 2026-10-20-v1
1. What this policy covers
This policy explains how Rebel Audio uses cookies and similar browser storage (local storage, session storage, IndexedDB and the Origin Private File System) on rebelaudio.ai, our website with the public show, episode and clip pages, and on app.rebelaudio.ai, the web app, and how you control them. It adds to our Privacy Policy. Show email addresses (ending in @shows.rebelaudio.ai) are for email only and set no cookies.
2. How consent works
On your first visit we show a consent banner. Analytics cookies, session recordings and anything that identifies you start only once you accept analytics. Strictly necessary storage is used without consent because the site cannot function without it. We honour the browser's Global Privacy Control signal as a refusal of analytics. You can change your choice at any time using the link, which is also in the footer of every page and under Settings in the app. One choice covers both rebelaudio.ai and app.rebelaudio.ai, and signing out does not change it. If a different person then signs in on the same browser, the app asks again, so one person's choice is never used for another.
Before you choose, or if you decline, we may count visits without cookies: which pages are viewed, where the visit came from (for example a campaign link or a referring site) and a few clicks on our marketing pages, such as opening the pricing page or starting a sign-up, and what happens on a shared clip's page: that the link was opened, how far the clip was played, and whether it was reacted to, passed on or its show followed. Nothing is stored on or read from your device for this beyond what every browser sends with a page request, and no identifier is stored on your device; our analytics provider groups page views into a visit using a scrambled code made from your IP address and browser (a one-way hash), which changes every day and cannot be turned back into the address. Where the law of your region requires consent even for this, or when your browser sends Global Privacy Control, we do not count you at all until you accept. The embeddable player on other websites is only ever counted this way.
To link a sign-up to the campaign or page that brought you, the campaign parameters of the link you arrived on (for example utm_source), the referring site's domain and your first page are kept in this tab's session storage until you close it, and are saved with your account if you sign up. In the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, Switzerland and Brazil they are stored only after you accept analytics; before that, a sign-up is credited only from the link the sign-up page itself was opened with.
3. Strictly necessary
| Name / store | Set by | Purpose | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|
__session*, __client_uat*, __clerk_* | Clerk | Keeps you signed in and protects against session forgery. | Up to 1 year; signing out ends your sign-in at once |
clerk_active_context | Clerk | Remembers which of your workspaces is open in this browser. | Until you close the browser |
g_state | Set by Google's sign-in prompt ("Sign in with Google") on our sign-in pages, only when you open them, and in the EEA, the UK, Switzerland and Brazil only after you accept analytics. Remembers whether you closed the prompt, so it is not shown again too soon. The prompt never loads on our website's other pages or on public show, episode and clip pages. | 6 months | |
et_cookie_consent (cookie) and et_consent_* (local storage) | Rebel Audio | Remembers your cookie choice and the version of this policy you saw. | 12 months |
theme (local storage) | Rebel Audio | Your choice of light, dark or system colours is saved on your account, not in your browser. This small copy only lets a page open in the right colours before your account loads. | Until you clear site data |
| App cache (IndexedDB, OPFS) | Rebel Audio | Keeps media you are uploading, transcripts and edits on your device so a dropped connection or reload does not lose work. | Until you delete the item or clear site data |
Other rebel:* items and create-show-form-draft-v1 (local and session storage) | Rebel Audio | Small items the app needs on this device: layout settings (whether the side menu is folded, how wide the Ask Rebel panel is), a show you started to create, which surveys and notices this tab has already shown, the two-hour visit token of a public clip page (used only to count one visit once and to stop repeated reactions), and, only in a browser without IndexedDB, the work-in-progress copy described in the row above. Some names include your account ID, so that two people who use the same browser do not see each other's items. | Until you close the tab, or until you clear site data |
rebel:attribution (session storage) | Rebel Audio | The campaign parameters, referring domain and first page of this visit, so a sign-up can be credited to the link that brought you. No identifier. In the EEA, the UK, Switzerland and Brazil, stored only after you accept analytics. | Until you close the tab |
Checkout and the billing portal are on Stripe's own website, and Google's account pages are on Google's. Cookies those sites set there follow Stripe's and Google's own policies.
4. Analytics (consent required)
| Name / store | Set by | Purpose | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|
ph_* (cookie and local storage), rebel_ph_consent (local storage) | PostHog, our product analytics provider, for Rebel Audio | Product analytics: which pages and features are used, and masked session recordings of the site and the signed-in app so we can find where the product is confusing. In a recording every input and every piece of text on screen is hidden, and transcripts, waveforms and video are blocked from capture entirely; the public podcast pages and the embeddable player are never recorded. rebel_ph_consent remembers that analytics is on. | 1 year |
PostHog processes this data for us in the United States (see the subprocessors page). We do not use advertising or cross-site tracking cookies, so the cookie banner offers only two kinds: strictly necessary and analytics. We do not sell or share data collected through cookies. If we add another analytics provider we will list it here first and it will sit behind the same consent.
5. Published content
When you publish a show, the RSS feed and media files are fetched by podcast apps and platforms that set their own cookies under their own policies. This policy does not cover them.
6. Browser controls
You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings. Blocking strictly necessary cookies will sign you out and may prevent uploads from resuming.
