Dead Air Valley: "The Spaghetti Eating Contest"

October 11, 2026. The Ulster County Italian Festival returned to the Kingston waterfront, at T.R. Gallo Park on the Strand, in the drizzle: the 1:25 spaghetti eating contest reported like a census, a scheduled Discussion of Southern Italian Folk Beliefs given a time slot between a world-music set and the pasta contest, homemade ravioli and homemade wine rituals, a fire breather and a stilt walker on the waterfront, the annual awards with a posthumous honor for Dr. Philip DiNovo, and the Rondout at dusk after the 7 PM close. Silas Van Wyck tells the story.
